For Practitioners

The work of the Math Center focuses on four design principles derived from recommendations in the IES Practice Guide Organizing Instruction and Study to Improve Student Learning.

  1. Combine graphics with verbal descriptions to promote the integration of concepts.
  2. Structure practice by interleaving worked examples with new problems to solve.
  3. Carefully spacing the learning of critical content and skills over time.
  4. Use focused feedback on quizzes and homework to promote student learning.
